17th NATIONAL PHOTO CONTEST AND EXHIBITION ON THE THEME OF

“  Secular India 

 

Photo Division, Ministry Of Information And Broadcasting, Government Of India had organised the 17th National Photo Contest, March 2005 inviting photographers in the country to participate in the competition by sending maximum number of entries in each section i.e. black & white and color on the theme of  ‘Secular India’.


A total number of 1070 photographs ( 232 black & white and 838 colour prints ) were received from 376 photographers The Jury comprising of very renowned and eminent photographers Padmashri Raghu Rai of New Delhi, Prof. Subroto Ray from Santi Niketan Mansa Ram, a representative of National Foundation of Communal Harmony and Shri. Debatosh Sengupta, Director, Photo Division screened all the entries and selected 26 award winners, 13 in each section.

In addition to this, the jury also considered 73 photographers for exhibition.The aim of the Photo Contest was to encourage the photographers of the country so that talents available in the field could be projected and be given due recognition.The theme was rather wide in its scope and this gave the contestants a large arena from which to select their subjects.
